Ford Mustang Apollo edition
Among many other variations of the new Mustang vehicle, there is one which could be particularly interesting. It is Ford Mustang Apollo edition, and it was built to celebrate Apollo moon mission. Customized and tuned to deliver high outputs, this is not space shuttle, but has a lot of power. New Mustang Apollo tops GT model.
Mustang Apollo edition – design
Styling of the Mustang Apollo edition is also interesting. Side of the car is sharp and somehow traditional. It has been always functional, but now the vehicle wears a costume of the Apollo rocket that took astronauts. However, this is not the first time that Mustang is in Apollo costume.
We had a chance to see one customized car built for the 2015 EAA AirVenture Oshkosh fly-in. This is experimental association for aviation fans. However, tradition goes to 2008 when first Ford Mustangs were tuned for commemoration. Back then, Stang paid tribute to the SR-71 Blackbird, and later to other aircrafts, such as U.S. Air Force Thunderbird or F-35 Lightning.
Ford Mustang Apollo edition – powertrain
Engine for the Ford Mustang Apollo edition was also tuned. Car got a version of drivetrain that powers GT model, but with more power. This road rocket has supercharged 5.0-liter V8 beast under its hood. It was designed by manager Melvin Betancourt, and 627 horsepower and 540 pound-feet of torque sound like a great achievement. Use of lightweight materials helped this car to reach these numbers, but main reason is big V8 that sends power to front wheels.
Ford Mustang Apollo edition – tuning
For better appearance, Ford Mustang Apollo edition suffered some additions to base model of the car. For example, orange LEDs under the vehicle boost the feeling of rocket. When you see exterior paint job, it would be clear that model was completely inspired by Apollo rocket. Advanced technology in materials give another confirmation to this point.
