Ford Mustang Australia
It has been more than half of the century since first Fords were produced in Australian continent. Ford Falcon was a car which had great success in this part of the world, like nowhere else. But, economic crisis was felt in car industry. In 2013 Falcon sales fell to less than 1,000 copies per month for the first time in the 52-year history, hitting the record low 594 sales in July of 2013. In the last two years has been released about 1,000 workers at factories in Australia, where those vehicles were produced. Ford would have to invest large sums of money in the next generations and it is not likely that this is profitable investment. Ford is expected to announce the closure of its car factory in Broadmeadows, Melbourne and its Geelong engine plant. Ford Australia will become an import-only brand. It is not sure yet when the factories will close but Ford is about to launch new Falcon next year in Australia and as it was confirmed recently – the new Mustang will be made right handed, especially for this market.
Ford Mustang Australia confirmed
In August, Ford’s executive Alan Mulally, during his visit to Australia, officialy confirmed that his company will come to the Aussie market with the new Mustang. For more information he was tight lipped. One thing is sure – this will be the first time a factory – built right – hand – drive version muscle car will be sole in Australia in almost half century, since late 1960s.
All information about equipment and features especially made for this market are still being kept as secret. For US market, it is unveiled that 2015 Ford Mustang will be available with turbo four-cylinder, V6 and V8 power. Vehicle should have similar size as current 2013 Mustang. Grille and the shapes for the headlights are seen to those found on the Taurus and Fusion models. We can expect independent rear suspension, which in new for Fords, curb weight should be down around 180kg and it will make fuel consumption cut, with extra saving on fuel with a four-cylinder EcoBoost engine.
Ford Mustang Australia price
There were Mustangs in Aussie market earlier. Back in 2001 to 2003, Ford Australia converted a small number of Mustangs. But, it’s price of approx $90,000 denied buyers, so less than 400 were sold. New 2015 Ford Mustang Australia is expected to start at $50,000, but if you compare it to base models for US market and its price $30,000, it is still too expensive.
Ford Mustang Australia release date
Release date of new 2015 Mustang is still questionable. It is planned to be introduced early in 2014, probably in January at the Detroit Motor Show. But, the latest reports told that it could happens in December. Release date for Australia is still far from now. It is expected to be by late 2015 or early 2016. As Mulally said, One Ford Plan for Australia is still in developing mode, but it progresses rapidly.
